Ultimate Adom (Early Access Preview) – Review
Our Rating: 6/10
Ancient Domains of Mystery, or ADOM, has a long history and a large fan base. This is thanks to the first game in particular. By today’s standards, the original may be too archaic. But the truth is that new versions had to simplify some of the systems to make the game more current and appealing.
Nobody expects to play a game in which the visual aspect is made up entirely of text characters. Ultimate ADOM is also the result of nearly 25 years of research and development. ADOM is more than just a roguelike.
The original ADOM is one of the best and most comprehensive roguelikes ever made. It’s almost like a chest from another era, and the number of elements available is impressive. Complex rules can be intimidating, but there aren’t many games that reward players so generously for their time.
Caverns of Chaos
Ultimate ADOM: Caverns of Chaos is currently in early access on Steam. It’s a skeleton of what the creators intend to present in the future, with simplified mechanics and a few errors and flaws. Without being too harsh on the game, analyzing Ultimate ADOM – Caverns of Chaos becomes extremely difficult. While it is true that the game is still in early access, it is also true that the game is for sale, and even in early access, it should be far more advanced and polished than it is.
Ultimate ADOM also appears to be taking a different path, keeping the dungeon crawler concepts of character creation, randomly generated dungeons, and a plethora of monsters, items, and spells while also moving in a more accessible direction with simpler mechanics.

Final Thoughts
Ultimate ADOM: Caverns of Chaos might be what you’re looking for if you’re a fan of the original game or the genre, but it’s important to emphasize that it can. The power here isn’t a matter of personal preference, but rather of the creators’ ability to get where they want to go and solve the game’s current issues.
If you truly believe in the project, you can help it along by participating in the development phase, and it may turn out to be something you enjoy. It’s also completely understandable if the game has too many unknowns right now to justify spending money on it.
