What is Darksiders III?

Darksiders III is the latest sequel to the mainline Darksiders series where you play as one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Darksiders I had you play as War who was trying to clear his name.

In Darksiders II you played as Death whose story takes place at the same time as War. Death’s tale is similar to his brother’s as he is also trying to clear War’s name.

In Darksiders III you play as Fury. Fury’s story takes place alongside both of her brothers. As humanity has died and the war-ravaged the planet, Fury is tasked to capture the Seven Deadly Sins.

However, things don’t seem to be as simple as they look to be as. Caught in a web of conspiracies, Fury slowly begins to uncover a larger, more nefarious plot. Without spoiling much, you prepare to learn about the Charred Council.

Gameplay of Darksiders III

Darksiders III is a hack-n-slash game. The game features fairly linear levels that borrow elements from the Metroidvania genre. If you know the series, you will find a similar formula here. You’ve got puzzles that are part of the level design and to break that monotony, you have combat.

Combat has always been a highlight of the Darksiders franchise and with III, it continues to do so. Fury’s moveset and abilities are fun to use and once you slowly unlock more things, mastering her moves is a joy.

Boss battles are also quite fantastic without being too punishing. Boss designs are interesting as well and sometimes tend to include gameplay elements into their design and fight. It’s a lot of fun so if you’re looking for some interesting fights, this is your place.

Look and Feel

Darksiders III on the Switch is no slouch by any means. The game in itself has a great visual design and art style. And this continues to look great even on the Nintendo Switch. If you’ve got an OLED Switch, the vibrancy of the game will really pop and make everything that much better.

The level design and environments are also fantastic with intuitive puzzles weaved into the world. Thankfully, the puzzles aren’t hard enough to frustrate you but are challenging enough that solving them feels rewarding.

Music as always is fantastic with great sound design and voice acting. Music has always been a great part of the Darksiders franchise that helps set the tone and make you feel badass. Even with the changes in this department, they’ve knocked it out of the part.

Final Verdict

Darksiders III is a fantastic hack-n-slash game that is now available portably on the Switch for new and old fans alike. This game is an absolute blast to play and we can’t wait for a sequel!
