Train of Doom
Re:Turn 2 – Runaway begins with a synopsis of the original game as narrated by Saki, the protagonist. She and four college pals, as well as her fiancé, agreed to go camping one final time before starting their adult lives. On their journey, they come into an abandoned train with a lot of secrets, including a tiny girl who was behind all the strange happenings.
Re:Turn 2 – Runaway is a psychological horror game with a strong focus on the characters. Saki and her fiancé, Sen, are stranded on an abandoned train that is being stalked by an evil spirit who takes the shape of a little girl named Ayumi. Through the eerie train, fight your way to the other side. Find clues in mysteriously deserted areas. Escape the nightmare and liberate the trapped souls from the grasp of the evil that has taken possession of them. However, acts have consequences. Saki must be cautious, or she will suffer the same fate as the others on Ayumi’s train. Saki must choose between running, hiding, or confronting the evil that has set its sights on her in order to be safe.
The entity known as Ayumi is concealing a dark secret. Saki is the only one who can uncover the truth about the darkness. However, Ayumi’s wickedness is strong, and if it captures Saki, all hope is lost. Saki will have to fight this evil with the weapons she discovers along the journey, and uncover the actual history of Ayumi’s evil methods.
What Turn the Wheels
The puzzles are the game’s main focus, and the game’s side-scrolling 2D nature is ideal for this type. When you are able to do a specific action (such as searching or hiding), icons will show. Saki, our main character, can also dodge and hide. The game does not have a health bar, but it does have a stamina bar. When approached by the creature, however, the player is instantly killed and the game is reset to the last save point. The game also has an inventory system where you can keep track of the many goods you find.
The voice acting can be a little over-the-top at times but overall, it’s well done. What we learn is that the ghost is still very much present, has possessed or corrupted the main character’s fiancé and now they need to escape all while a monster stalks the corridors of the derelict and creepy train from the first game.
Final Verdict
Re:Turn 2 – Runaway does a great job to keep you at the edge of your seat. It’s a good sequel that continues the tale of Saki. And does it well enough to keep you engaged throughout with its voice acting and atmosphere.
