Who is Raiden Ei in Genshin Impact?

Raiden Ei is the God of Eternity and the current Electro Archon who presides over Inazuma. She is a member of The Seven. She currently functions as the Raiden Shogun of Inazuma. Ei’s older twin sister Makoto, or Baal, died 500 years ago in the cataclysm.

Personality

Ei is portrayed as rather self-centered and boastful. She claims that her ideal is “nearest unto Heaven,” calls her body the “noblest and most eminent of all in this world,” and sees her reign as eternal.

Although honorable in her conduct due to the losses she suffered during the Cataclysm and fearful of the erosion that would occur, she chose to move herself to the Plane of Euthymia to meditate, reflect, and keep the “eternity” she always remembered. She is relatively slow in catching trends.

Appearance

Ei’s modern appearance is of a woman with dark purple hair tied into a long braid. She has bright purple eyes, much like the Electro element, and has a beauty mark under her right eye. She shares the same appearance as the Shogun puppet.

We see her as a tachi-wielding woman with long violet-colored hair that was worn down during the Chapter II Prologue. She wore a kimono which is similar to the one she wears in the present day.

In Genshin Impact 2.1, the true nature of Raiden Ei was revealed during both Act III of the Inazuma storyline, and the Imperatrix Umbrosa story quest. You can unlock the latter for three Story Keys after players complete the Omnipresence Over Mortals quest.

Who is Baal?

In various conversations and data entries, you’ll still find people referring to Ei (Beelzebul) as Baal, and here’s why.

The people of Inazuma erroneously use Baal because they’re actually unaware that the original Electro Archon (Makoto) perished during the cataclysm.

As for other Archons like Venti and Zhongli, they use the name Baal as an homage to Ei’s original role to Makoto. Makoto was the head of Inazuma while Ei served under her as the kagemusha, or body double.
