Genshin Impact is a free-to-play open-world “gacha” game from HoYoverse, and is full of detailed worlds and fun characters to play with. Open-world games often feature mods because mods can deeply enrich the experience of a game, adding different aspects to the base game.
What is Modding?
Video game modding (short for “modification”) is the process of alteration by players or fans of one or more aspects of a video game, such as how it looks or behaves, and is a sub-discipline of general modding. Mods may range from small changes and tweaks to complete turn-overs and can extend the replay value and interest of the game.
Are there Mods for Genshin Impact?
Unfortunately, there are no mods available for players to publically download. Players on community forums like Reddit have asked numerous times for the availability of mods. These include collectible markers, custom player skins, loading screen custom art, and so on. However, the developers maintain their strict zero-tolerance policy regarding this.
Players caught using third-party software – which includes mods – will be banned from Genshin Impact. In fact, many players have already reported being banned from the game for trying to use Genshin Impact PC mods. Because of this, most Genshin Impact mods that have been created thus far are kept private to keep the people who use them from getting themselves banned.
This is the main reason mods in Genshin Impact don’t really exist in a public sense. Players don’t want to risk getting banned from the game while losing their progress, characters, and weapons from “gacha” pull. There are very few characters in Genshin Impact that are free, so getting banned could mean wasting real-world money that was spent on in-game. Public mods in Genshin Impact won’t really be possible until miHoYo changes its policy on third-party software (which doesn’t seem likely)
